Leanne Mayell

Compassionate and Empathic

Leanne has had over 30 years of experience in the field of counselling. She is a registered psychologist who has held a variety of counselling positions in both private practice and the non-government community sector. 

Leanne has been involved in supporting numerous helping agencies and has served on a range of community-based management committees. She was co-founder of the South-West Branch of the Australian Psychological Society. She also co-founded and established Riverwood Psychological Services.


In addition to offering counselling services, Leanne has taught counselling and community work casually at TAFE and at university. In her capacity as a trainer, Leanne contributed to the development of the Building On Strengths systems-focussed training manual for the community sector. 


Leanne is experienced in working with adults, children, adolescents, couples and families presenting with diverse issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, shyness, loss and bereavement, behaviour problems, relationship difficulties and family issues.

Leanne prides herself on being an excellent listener who is respectful, ethical, empathetic and compassionate. She believes in honouring and valuing the uniqueness of every client and their experience whilst supporting them to achieve the changes they seek to make.


Leanne employs a range of evidence-based approaches to assist clients and is particularly influenced by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focussed Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.


Regardless of the therapeutic modality being used, Leanne believes everybody has personal strengths that are both known and unknown to them. She believes in the benefits of identifying and drawing on those strengths to help people facilitate change in their own lives.

Leanne looks forward to working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families at Evolving Minds. She is approved by Medicare to provide focussed psychological strategies to eligible clients.
