Motivational Interviewing

A short term therapy model which helps resolve ambivalence.

Motivation Interviewing is a goal directed counselling style that helps people resolve internal conflict or ambivalence.

Motivational Interviewing is based on the assumption that:

  • We are often conflicted when faced with change;

  • We are able to work through these feelings by focusing on our motivation for change, while at the same time recognising the role values play when we make decisions.

When working with change, we look at whether a person is ready to make changes and how these changes may impact them.  We also work with resistance, as it is not uncommon for people to be unaware of road blocks to change and how these may impact their future.

Evolving Minds Counselling recognise change is hard and there are many different reasons why we resist change.  This is why we provide a space free of judgement so you can explore the pros and cons of change.
