Therapy for Perfectionism
at Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology
There is nothing wrong with having high standards, however, when those standards become rigid or tied to self-criticism, they can start to impact your confidence, mental health, and willingness to try new things. This is especially true when mistakes feel unacceptable or success never feels “good enough.”
At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology, we work with children, adolescents and adults to understand and manage perfectionism.
In children, perfectionism may appear as distress over mistakes, reluctance to try new tasks unless they can be done perfectly, or fear of failure. In adolescents, it can show up as academic pressure, self-doubt, procrastination, or withdrawal from social situations. In adults, perfectionism often leads to overworking, burnout, indecision and a constant sense of falling short, even when achievements suggest otherwise.
Over time, these unrelenting standards may contribute to anxiety, panic attacks, low self-esteem, eating disorders or obsessive-compulsive tendencies.
Our clinicians use a range of evidence-based therapies to build awareness, improve emotional regulation, and support healthier ways of thinking and coping. Sessions are available in-person in Sutherland Shire or online.
