Perinatal and Postnatal Support
at Evolving Minds Counselling
The transition to parenthood is a profound journey, often bringing both joy and emotional challenges. At Evolving Minds Counselling, we offer compassionate, evidence-based support to help individuals and families navigate pregnancy, childbirth, and early parenting.

Understanding Perinatal Mental Health

Emotional health challenges can arise during pregnancy or in the first year after birth. Conditions such as perinatal depression, postnatal depression, anxiety, and adjustment difficulties are common, affecting up to one in seven mothers and one in ten fathers.
Common experiences may include feelings of anxiety or depression, difficulty adjusting to parenthood, stress, low confidence, emotional overwhelm, changes in identity, body image or relationships, and grief following infertility, pregnancy loss, or birth trauma. With the right support, recovery and emotional growth are possible.

What Contributes to Perinatal and Postnatal Depression?

A range of factors may contribute to perinatal mental health difficulties. These can include a history of mental health concerns, experiences of infertility or pregnancy loss, traumatic birth experiences, relationship difficulties, reduced support networks, hormonal changes, stress, and the emotional demands of adjusting to a new parenting role.
Seeking support early can make a meaningful difference, helping you feel more understood, connected, and supported as you navigate the emotional complexities of pregnancy, loss, and early parenting.
