Healing from Trauma and PTSD:
How Therapy Can Help

What is EMDR?

​

EMDR is a therapy that helps you process traumatic memories without needing to talk in detail about what happened. Through guided eye movements or tapping, you can work through the painful memories and start to feel less overwhelmed by them.

​Many people find that EMDR helps them feel better long-term, not just temporarily.

What is Somatic Psychotherapy?

​

Somatic Psychotherapy focuses on the connection between your mind and body. Traumatic memories often show up physically, like tension, pain, or feeling disconnected from your body. This therapy helps you become more aware of these sensations and release the stored tension.  It also helps you:

  • Body awareness: Learn to notice and understand your body’s reactions.

  • Release tension: Use techniques like breathing, movement, and grounding.

  • Feel safer: Develop a greater sense of safety and control within yourself.

Understanding Trauma and PTSD

When something traumatic happens, it can feel like the event is replaying in your mind over and over. You might:

​

  • Have flashbacks or nightmares that make you feel like you’re reliving the trauma.

  • Avoid places or people that remind you of what happened.

  • Feel constantly on edge or anxious, as if danger is always near.

  • Experience physical symptoms like tension, pain, or a racing heart.

 

These reactions are common signs of trauma or PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). It's important to know healing is possible, and you don’t have to face this alone.
