Counselling for Stress, Fatigue and Burnout
Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology | Menai and Sutherland Shire
Stress, fatigue and burnout can develop gradually or appear during times of pressure, change or overwhelm. While stress is a natural response to life’s demands, ongoing stress can affect mood, sleep, motivation, physical health and the ability to cope day to day. Fatigue may show up as emotional exhaustion, reduced energy or difficulty concentrating, while burnout often develops when ongoing demands exceed capacity, leaving people feeling drained, detached or unable to find relief.
Stress can look different depending on age. Children may become more reactive, withdrawn or easily overwhelmed by school or social expectations. Adolescents often describe difficulty concentrating, academic pressure, social stress or disrupted sleep. Adults may notice constant tension, frustration, poor sleep, reduced motivation or difficulty switching off from responsibilities. Over time, these patterns can impact confidence, decision-making and the ability to feel settled or in control.
At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology in Menai, our psychologists and counsellors work with children, adolescents and adults experiencing stress, fatigue or burnout. We offer a calm, structured and trauma-informed space to explore what is contributing to stress, understand the patterns that maintain it and develop strategies that feel realistic and sustainable. We work with people across the Sutherland Shire, including Bangor, Illawong, Alfords Point, Barden Ridge, Engadine, Woronora Heights, Sylvania, Kirrawee, Gymea, Miranda and Caringbah.
Our clinicians draw on evidence-based therapies that help people regulate emotions, reduce overwhelm and rebuild resilience. These may include:
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
• Emotion Focused Therapy
• Interpersonal Therapy
• Play and Art Therapy for younger clients
Counselling aligns with each person’s goals and their readiness for change. Sessions explore the sources of stress, the thoughts and behaviours that reinforce it, and introduce strategies that help you feel more grounded, organised and capable. For children and adolescents, we may also work with families and schools to support consistency and reduce stressors across environments.
Counselling is available in-person at our Menai practice or online for clients across Sydney.
