Meet Charmaine Guthrie
Charmaine is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and Animal-Assisted Therapist with more than 20 years of experience supporting adolescents, adults and older adults. At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology, she works alongside Sebastian, her certified therapy dog, to create a calm and supportive therapeutic space.
Charmaine brings a rich background in education and family systems. She has worked extensively with young people and families navigating challenges such as school refusal, academic stress, and major educational transitions. Her insight into adolescent development and school dynamics allows her to provide practical, age-appropriate support during key developmental stages.
Charmaine also has a strong interest in working with older adults and caregivers. She provides sensitive, informed support around the emotional challenges of ageing, such as grief, loss of identity, retirement, and changes in health or family roles. She also supports carers, helping them manage the demands of caregiving while prioritising their own wellbeing. Her approach is warm, respectful, and tailored to each person’s unique needs and circumstances.
Charmaine draws on a range of evidence-based therapies, including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Strengths-Based Practice, and Systems Theory. She integrates these frameworks flexibly to support emotional regulation, insight, and lasting change.
Clients often describe Charmaine as kind, intuitive, and easy to talk to. Her sessions offer a safe space to explore challenges, process emotions, and build resilience. Sebastian, our therapy dog, can be included in sessions however, this is optional.
