Charmaine Guthrie Accredited Mental Health Social Worker

Meet Charmaine Guthrie

Older Adults • Caregiver Stress
• Trauma • Adolescents

Charmaine Guthrie is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker at Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology in Menai. She works with adolescents, adults, and older adults across the Sutherland Shire, offering therapy in person at the Menai practice and online across Australia.

Charmaine creates a respectful and supportive therapeutic space where people can explore challenges, process emotions and build resilience.

Charmaine works with people impacted by trauma, loss and significant life events. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and draws on evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), helping people process difficult experiences, reduce distress and restore a sense of safety.

With a background in education and family systems, Charmaine works with adolescents and families experiencing school refusal and school avoidance, academic stress and significant educational transitions. She offers practical guidance to help reduce stress and build confidence during periods of change.

For older adults, Charmaine provides support through the emotional challenges of ageing, including grief, identity changes, retirement, changes in health, and shifting family roles. She also works with carers managing the demands of looking after ageing parents or partners with complex health needs, supporting them to maintain their own wellbeing alongside their caring responsibilities.

Charmaine also works with people living with disability, ADHD and autism, adapting therapy to suit communication styles, sensory needs and individual strengths. She also welcomes self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants.

Clients also have the option of including animal-assisted therapy with Sebastian, Charmaine's certified therapy dog. Sebastian's presence is entirely optional and can be tailored to what each person feels comfortable with.
