Meet Charmaine Guthrie
Older Adults • Caregiver Stress • Trauma • Adolescents
Charmaine Guthrie is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker at Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology in Menai, offering therapy for adolescents, adults, and older adults in person at our Menai practice and online across Australia. She works with people experiencing a range of mental health presentations, including trauma, anxiety, stress and life transitions.
Charmaine has a particular interest in working with older adults and caregivers. She works with the emotional challenges associated with ageing, including grief, identity changes, retirement, changes in health, and shifting family roles. She helps carers manage the demands of caregiving while maintaining their own health needs, and works with people adjusting to caring responsibilities for ageing parents or partners with complex health needs.
Charmaine works extensively with individuals affected by trauma, loss, and significant life events. She provides trauma-informed therapy and draws on evidence-based approaches such as EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Her work focuses on helping people process difficult experiences, reduce distress, and restore a sense of safety and stability. Sebastian, Charmaine’s certified therapy dog, may be included in sessions if clients choose.
With a background in education and family systems, Charmaine has extensive experience working with adolescents and families, including school avoidance, academic stress, and significant educational transitions. She provides practical guidance to help reduce stress and build confidence during periods of change.
Charmaine also works with individuals with neurodevelopmental differences and disability, including ADHD and autism, and adapts therapy to suit communication styles, sensory needs, and individual strengths.
