Adult Counselling in the Sutherland Shire
For many adults, counselling provides a confidential place to make sense of what's happening, work through difficulty, and build practical strategies for everyday life.
At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology in Menai, our psychologists and counsellors across the Sutherland Shire work with adults locally and online across Sydney and Australia.
What does adult counselling involve?
People come to counselling at different points. Some are looking for clarity around a specific issue, while others want to explore broader patterns or ongoing challenges.
Adult counselling is a confidential conversation between you and a clinician, usually weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Sessions might involve talking through current difficulties, looking at what's contributing to them, exploring earlier experiences where relevant, and developing skills or strategies you can carry into daily life. The work is collaborative and guided by what feels manageable for you.
The first session is usually about getting to know each other. Your clinician will ask about what's brought you in, what you're hoping to work on, and a bit about your background and current situation. There's no expectation to have everything figured out beforehand, many people come in unsure of where to start, and the first session is part of working that out together.
What can adult counselling help with?
We work with a wide range of presentations including:
-
Anxiety, stress and burnout, and panic
How do we work?
Some people benefit from shorter-term, focused work, while others engage in longer-term support. We work with you to find an approach that feels sustainable.
Rather than applying a fixed model, our clinicians draw on a range of evidence based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), EMDR and Interpersonal Therapy.
Some clients access sessions through a Mental Health Care Plan from their GP, which provides Medicare rebates for sessions with a psychologist. Others see us privately or through private health, workers compensation, CTP or NDIS. You don't need a referral to book in. If you're not sure which pathway suits you, our Client Care Team can talk it through with you.
