Depression Therapy in Menai and the Sutherland Shire
At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology in Menai, our psychologists, counsellors and mental health social workers take the time to understand what is happening for you and how depression is affecting your day-to-day life. We provide therapy, counselling and psychological support to clients across the Sutherland Shire, including Caringbah, Cronulla, Sutherland, Miranda, Engadine, and surrounding suburbs.
Depression looks different for everyone. For some people, it's ongoing low mood. For others, it shows up as exhaustion, disconnection, loss of motivation, or difficulty getting through everyday tasks. We work with children, adolescents and adults at different stages of life.
What does depression look like?
Depression may present in different ways. You might notice:
Persistent low mood
Loss of interest or enjoyment
Fatigue or low energy
Changes in sleep or appetite
Difficulty concentrating
Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
Withdrawal from social activities
Reduced motivation or sense of purpose
These experiences can vary in intensity and may change over time.
What causes depression?
Depression is often influenced by a combination of factors. Life transitions, ongoing stress and relationship difficulties can all play a role.
For some people, hormonal changes may also influence mood, including during the perinatal period (pregnancy and early parenthood), menopause or other life-stage transitions.
Depression is one of the most common mood disorders we see at Evolving Minds. It may present on its own or alongside experiences such as anxiety, trauma, or grief and loss, and it can affect people differently across the lifespan. Counselling provides a space to explore what is contributing to your experience and how best to move forward.
How does counselling help with depression?
Depression can make everyday life feel heavier than it should. Counselling provides a space to slow down, make sense of what is happening, and begin to move forward.
This may include:
Why low mood persists, even when things seem okay on the surface
-
Patterns in thoughts and emotions that may be keeping you stuck
-
Ways to gradually re-engage with the activities and relationships that matter to you
-
Practical approaches that feel realistic for your life
How do we treat depression?
Depression is one of many areas we work with. See the full list of conditions we work with at our Menai practice. Our psychologists, counsellors and mental health social workers have experience working with depression across the lifespan.
We draw on a range of evidence-based psychological approaches tailored to each person's experience. These may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Therapy, and trauma informed approaches, depending on what is most appropriate for you.
