ADHD Therapy and Coaching
in Sydney and the Sutherland Shire

ADHD can show up differently for each person. For some, it is difficulty sustaining attention or following through on tasks. For others, it may feel like constant overwhelm, emotional reactivity, or a sense of never quite keeping up regardless of how much effort.

At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology in Menai, we provide ADHD therapy and coaching for children, adolescents and adults across Sydney and the Sutherland Shire. Our approach is neurodiversity-affirming, with support based on the individual and the ways ADHD affects their everyday life.

ADHD is one part of a broader neurodiversity profile. You can learn more about our approach on our Neurodiversity page.

What you might notice

ADHD can present in different ways. You might notice:

  • Difficulty starting or completing tasks

  • Losing track of time, deadlines or belongings

  • Emotional reactivity or difficulty calming down

  • Sensitivity to criticism or perceived failure

  • Inconsistent performance across different days or settings

  • Ongoing overwhelm

  • Relationship strain related to forgetfulness or impulsivity

These experiences can vary across different stages of life and may become more noticeable when the demands of school, university, work, relationships or family life increase.

Understanding ADHD in context

ADHD frequently overlaps with anxiety, depression and difficulties with emotional regulation. For many people, these experiences have been present for a long time before they are understood or identified.

ADHD is frequently under-recognised in women and girls. Women and girls may experience difficulties with organisation, overwhelm, emotional sensitivity and self-criticism, and some reach adulthood without understanding why certain things have felt so much harder.

For children and adolescents, ADHD can contribute to difficulties at school, challenges with friendships and heightened emotional intensity, particularly as academic demands increase.

If you are seeking a formal diagnosis, we also offer ADHD assessments for adolescents aged 12+ and adults.

How ADHD therapy can help

ADHD therapy focuses on understanding how ADHD affects you and developing strategies to manage its emotional, psychological and practical impact.

This may include:

  • Developing organisation, planning and time management strategies

  • Improving emotional regulation skills

  • Addressing patterns of self-criticism, avoidance or overwhelm

  • Supporting routines and consistency at home, school or work

  • Working on relationship difficulties connected to ADHD

For children and adolescents, therapy often involves working with parents to support consistency between home and sessions. For adults, sessions may focus on managing competing demands, emotional regulation and improving follow-through.

ADHD can also contribute to anxiety, low mood and stress. Where these are present, they can be explored as part of therapy.

ADHD coaching

For people looking for practical support with the day-to-day challenges of ADHD, we also offer ADHD coaching and executive functioning support.

ADHD coaching is goal-focused and may help with:

  • Organisation and planning

  • Time management

  • Task initiation and follow-through

  • Procrastination and prioritising

  • Developing routines and practical systems

  • Motivation and working towards goals

Our approach is neurodiversity-affirming and considers the individual and the ways ADHD affects their everyday life.

ADHD coaching is available in person at our Menai practice in the Sutherland Shire and online across Sydney and Australia. Medicare rebates may apply to psychological therapy sessions where eligible. Standalone ADHD coaching is not eligible for a Medicare rebate.

Evidence-based therapy for ADHD

Our clinicians have experience working with ADHD across different stages of life, from childhood through to adulthood. Our team provides ADHD coaching and can incorporate practical strategies for executive functioning, organisation, planning, time management and follow-through alongside therapeutic work where appropriate.

ADHD therapy draws on evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and DBT-informed approaches, depending on each person and their therapeutic goals.

Our team includes clinicians with professional training and experience in ADHD and neurodivergence, and our Director, Vanessa Allen, is a member of the Australasian ADHD Professionals Association (AADPA).
