ADHD Coaching
in Sydney and the Sutherland Shire

ADHD coaching provides practical support for people who want to better manage the day-to-day challenges associated with ADHD. While therapy and coaching can complement one another, they have different purposes.

People seek ADHD coaching for many different reasons. Some have recently been diagnosed and want practical support applying what they have learned in everyday life. Others are looking to improve organisation, time management or executive functioning, while some use coaching alongside psychological therapy or medication to help achieve specific personal, study or work-related goals.

At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology, we provide ADHD coaching for adolescents and adults from our Menai practice in the Sutherland Shire, with online ADHD coaching available across Australia.

Our approach is neuro-affirming. Your ADHD coach works with you to understand how ADHD affects your life, build on your strengths and develop strategies that work for you.

What is ADHD coaching?

Although ADHD coaching and therapy can complement one another, they have different purposes.

Psychological therapy focuses on mental health, emotional wellbeing and the impact ADHD may have on areas such as anxiety, self-esteem, relationships or emotional regulation.

ADHD coaching combines three key elements: a collaborative, goal-focused coaching relationship, education about ADHD and executive functioning, and practical skills coaching to develop strategies that support everyday life. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, coaching helps you identify systems and strategies that work for the way you think and work.

Some people benefit from coaching alone, while others choose to combine coaching with therapy.

What can ADHD coaching help with?

ADHD coaching focuses on practical strategies that can make everyday life more manageable.

Depending on your goals, coaching may help you:

  • improve organisation and planning

  • strengthen time management skills

  • reduce procrastination and task avoidance

  • develop routines that are realistic and sustainable

  • improve prioritisation and decision making

  • strengthen executive functioning skills

  • manage competing demands at work, university or home

  • improve follow-through on goals and commitments

  • better understand your own patterns, strengths and challenges

Coaching is a collaborative process. Together, you and your ADHD coach explore your strengths, identify what gets in the way, and develop practical strategies that are realistic, sustainable and suited to the way you work.

Executive Functioning Coaching

Executive functioning skills help us plan, organise, prioritise, start tasks and follow through. For many people with ADHD, these are the areas that create the greatest day-to-day challenges.

Executive functioning coaching focuses on developing practical systems that support organisation, time management, planning, task initiation and follow-through. Rather than relying on generic productivity advice, your ADHD coach works with you to develop strategies that fit the way you think, learn and work.

Our Approach

ADHD coaching is based on partnership and collaboration. Coaching begins by developing a better understanding of how ADHD affects your everyday life, identifying your strengths and recognising the situations where you are most likely to become overwhelmed or get off track.

As coaching progresses, your ADHD coach works with you to develop practical strategies, review what has and hasn't worked, and make adjustments over time. The goal is not perfection, but developing sustainable systems that support the way you naturally think and work.

Who Provides ADHD Coaching?

ADHD coaching at Evolving Minds is provided by clinicians with training and experience in ADHD and neurodivergence. Unlike a general ADHD life coach, our clinicians have experience supporting adolescents and adults with the practical, emotional and psychological challenges associated with ADHD.

Coaching can be accessed as a standalone service or alongside psychological therapy where appropriate.

Medicare rebates may apply to psychological therapy where eligible. Standalone ADHD coaching is not eligible for a Medicare rebate.
