Adult Combined ADHD and Autism assessment
in the Sutherland Shire and Sydney

A combined assessment evaluates ADHD and autism within a single, integrated assessment process. Rather than assessing each condition separately, our psychologists consider how ADHD and autism may overlap, interact, and influence one another to develop a comprehensive understanding of your cognitive profile, daily functioning, strengths, and support needs.

Why Choose a Combined Assessment?

ADHD and autism commonly occur together. While each has distinct characteristics, they also share features such as executive functioning difficulties, sensory differences, emotional regulation challenges, and social communication differences. It can therefore be difficult to determine whether one condition, or both, are contributing to your experiences.

A combined assessment allows our psychologists to consider the full clinical picture by evaluating ADHD and autism together rather than in isolation. Many adults choose this pathway because they recognise characteristics of both conditions, suspect they may be AuDHD, or want a more comprehensive understanding of their experiences.

Some adults seek a combined assessment because they recognise characteristics of both ADHD and autism, or suspect they may be AuDHD.

A combined assessment may be appropriate if you:

  • recognise features of both ADHD and autism

  • are unsure whether ADHD, autism, or both best explain your experiences

  • have previously been assessed for one condition but feel your experiences were not fully explained

  • would like clarity across both conditions through one comprehensive assessment process

  • want a single report addressing both ADHD and autism

What Does the Assessment Involve?

The assessment follows a structured, evidence-based diagnostic process and is completed over three appointments, including two assessment sessions and one feedback session, across approximately four to six weeks.

The assessment includes:

  • detailed clinical interviews exploring your current presentation and daily functioning

  • comprehensive developmental history

  • standardised assessment measures for ADHD and autism

  • assessment of executive functioning, attention, sensory processing, emotional regulation and social communication

  • consideration of education, employment, relationships and everyday functioning

  • review of masking, learned coping strategies, trauma and co-occurring mental health conditions

  • review of previous reports where available

  • collateral information from a parent, partner or another person who knows you well, where appropriate

Following the assessment, you will receive:

  • a comprehensive written report outlining the assessment findings and diagnostic conclusions

  • individualised recommendations to inform future treatment, workplace or educational adjustments where appropriate, and ongoing support

  • a feedback appointment where your psychologist explains the findings, answers your questions, and discusses the recommendations

Our Neuro-Affirming Approach

Our psychologists take a neuro-affirming approach that recognises the diversity of neurodevelopmental presentations.

We recognise that ADHD and autism present differently for every individual and that many adults have developed strategies to compensate for or mask their differences over time. Our assessments consider your developmental history, lived experience, strengths and current functioning rather than relying on stereotypes or outdated assumptions.

Our goal is to provide a thorough and respectful assessment that helps you better understand your experiences and supports informed decision-making moving forward.

Telehealth ADHD and Autism Assessments

Adults across Australia can complete the entire combined assessment via secure telehealth.

The telehealth assessment follows the same structured process as our in-person assessments and includes the same clinical interviews, assessment measures, comprehensive report, and feedback appointment.
