Neuro-Affirming and Inclusive Therapy
in the Sutherland Shire

At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology in Menai, our psychologists and counsellors provide neuro-affirming and inclusive therapy for children, adolescents and adults across the Sutherland Shire. We offer in-person sessions at our Menai practice, as well as secure online appointments across Australia.

We recognise that people experience the world in different ways. Identity, neurodiversity, culture, relationships and life experiences all shape how someone understands themselves, their emotions and their mental health. Our approach focuses on creating a respectful and inclusive therapeutic space where people feel understood and able to explore their experiences openly.

Many of the people we work with identify as neurodivergent, including those with ADHD and autism. A neuro-affirming approach recognises that differences in attention, communication, emotional regulation and sensory experiences are part of natural human variation. Rather than focusing on changing these differences, therapy may involve understanding how they show up in daily life, relationships and self-perception.

Sessions may include exploring overwhelm, burnout, identity, masking, emotional regulation or challenges with organisation and routines. You can learn more about these experiences on our ADHD and Autism pages, or explore other areas on our Conditions We Work With page.

Our clinicians also provide inclusive therapy for people exploring gender identity, sexuality and relationship diversity. This includes individuals who identify as LGBTQ+, as well as those navigating identity, relationships or life transitions. Therapy provides a space to reflect on these experiences, and may also involve working through anxiety, low mood or relationship patterns.

Cultural background, family systems and community experiences are also an important part of how people make sense of their lives. Our psychologists and counsellors aim to provide culturally responsive care that recognises the role of culture, language and lived experience in shaping emotional health and relationships.

We aim to ensure our practice is accessible for people living with disability, chronic health conditions, or differences in physical, sensory or cognitive functioning. Where appropriate, sessions may be adapted to support communication preferences, sensory needs or accessibility requirements. We may also work collaboratively with families or other professionals where this is helpful.

This approach is reflected across the work we do, including therapy for anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, ADHD, autism and relationship difficulties. You can explore these further on our Evidence-Based Therapies page.
