Adult ADHD and Autism Assessments
Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology — Menai and the Sutherland Shire
Many adults seek an ADHD or autism assessment later in life after years of feeling that things have taken more effort than they seem to for others. For some, this includes long-standing difficulties with attention, organisation, sensory sensitivity, emotional regulation, or social interaction. For others, it reflects a growing recognition that masking and compensating have come at a personal cost.
An adult assessment can provide clarity, context, and an evidence-based understanding of how your brain works.
Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology provides adult ADHD and autism assessments from our practice in Menai, supporting adults across the Sutherland Shire and via telehealth throughout Australia
Assessments are conducted by experienced clinicians who are registered with their relevant professional bodies and work within recognised diagnostic and ethical frameworks, including AHPRA guidelines.
The Assessment Process
Adult ADHD and autism assessments are comprehensive and completed over multiple appointments. The process typically includes a detailed clinical interview, standardised and evidence-based questionnaires, and an exploration of developmental history, current presentation, and functional impact across settings such as work, study, and relationships.
Where appropriate, past reports or collateral information may also be reviewed. The assessment process considers how masking, learned coping strategies, trauma, or co-occurring mental health experiences can influence how ADHD or autism presents in adulthood. Diagnosis is never based on a single measure, checklist, or session.
Who Are These Assessments Suited To
These assessments are appropriate for adults seeking clarity regarding ADHD, autism, or both. Many people pursue assessment after years of uncertainty, misattribution, or incomplete explanations for their experiences. It is also common for adults to seek assessment later in life after learning more about neurodiversity or recognising similarities with others.
Assessments are approached in a neuro-affirming and respectful manner, with careful attention to individual context rather than relying on stereotypes or narrow diagnostic assumptions.
Referrals, Funding and Next Steps
Adult ADHD and autism assessments are offered as private services and are not covered under Medicare. If you are unsure whether an assessment is appropriate for you, our Client Care Team can discuss the process and assist with next steps.
Following completion of the assessment, a comprehensive written report is prepared outlining assessment findings, diagnostic conclusions, and practical recommendations. Reports may be used to support workplace accommodations, further therapeutic work, or personal understanding, depending on individual needs. The Report is provided in your feedback session, which is funded as part of the assessment.
