Family Based Therapy (FBT)
at Evolving Minds Counselling
Maudsley Family-Based Therapy (FBT) is a leading, evidence based treatment for children and adolescents living with an eating disorder. It is most commonly used to treat Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa and other restrictive eating behaviours.
FBT empowers parents and carers to play an active role in their child’s recovery. Rather than placing responsibility solely on the young person, this approach brings the whole family together to interrupt disordered behaviour, such as restriction.
FBT has three phases:
-
Restoring weight and physical health with parental support
-
Gradually returning control of eating back to the child or young person
-
Addressing developmental and family dynamics that support long-term recovery
At Evolving Minds Counselling, we recognise the emotional toll eating disorders can take on the entire family. Our FBT-trained clinicians provide compassionate, practical guidance to help families work toward recovery.
