Support for Separation Anxiety
at Evolving Minds Counselling

Separation anxiety can affect people of all ages and may significantly impact everyday life. In children, it may appear as school refusal, trouble sleeping alone, stomach aches, nausea, or distress when apart from parents or caregivers. While less common in adolescents and adults, separation anxiety can interfere with work, relationships, and independence, leading to avoidance behaviours or panic attacks.

At Evolving Minds Counselling, we provide compassionate, evidence based support for children, adolescents and adults experiencing separation anxiety. Our experienced clinicians create a safe and non-judgemental space to understand underlying fears, reduce distress, and build emotional resilience.

We use a range of evidence based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness techniques, and gradual exposure to help manage anxiety and increase confidence.

For children and adolescents, we work closely with parents and schools to ensure consistent, supportive strategies across all settings. For adults and teens, therapy may also explore past experiences, life transitions, or underlying anxiety disorders that contribute to separation-related distress.

With the right support, separation anxiety can improve and early intervention can make a difference in restoring security, independence, and wellbeing.
