Therapy for PTSD and Trauma

at Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology

Trauma can shape how you feel, think, and relate to the world. You may experience anxiety, emotional numbing, hypervigilance, difficulty sleeping, or feel disconnected from yourself or others. These responses are common after distressing experiences such as abuse, neglect, family violence, systemic harm, or chronic stress. Trauma can affect the nervous system and emotional regulation, especially when experienced during childhood or over a long period of time.

At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology, we provide trauma-informed therapy for children, adolescents, and adults. Our clinicians are highly trained in trauma treatment, with postgraduate qualifications and ongoing professional development in evidence-based approaches. We create a calm, supportive space for trauma therapy in Sydney where healing unfolds at your pace.

We support people who have experienced a wide range of trauma, including childhood abuse or neglect, domestic violence, sexual assault, vicarious trauma, racism, traumatic birth, and medical trauma. Whether trauma was a single event or occurred over time, therapy can help you make sense of your experiences, feel safer in your body, and move toward emotional stability and reconnection.

Our therapists have accumulated years of experience in trauma therapy since our practice opened its doors in 2007 and they draw on a range of evidence-based modalities including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), Trauma-Focused CBT, Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), Somatic Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Art Therapy and attachment-based approaches. These therapies address the mind–body impacts of trauma and are tailored to your individual needs, goals, and readiness.

Evolving Minds Menai also supports parents and caregivers seeking to break cycles of trauma, strengthen attachment, and build emotionally attuned relationships with their children. This work may include a focus on reparative parenting and intergenerational healing.

Therapy is available in-person at our Menai practice or online. To learn more or book an appointment for PTSD Therapy in the Sutherland Shire, call us on (02) 8519 4197 or click the button below to get in touch.
