Support for Challenging Behaviour
in Children and Adolescents
at Evolving Minds Counselling

Challenging behaviours in children and adolescents often affect relationships with family, schools and peers. These behaviours are often misunderstood and mislabelled, with children being seen as naughty, out of control, or destructive which can create feelings of inadequacy, low self-worth, and poor self-esteem.

Difficult behaviours can stem from a range of factors including developmental changes, anxiety,  trauma, family stress, and school or social pressure. In some cases, neurodevelopmental conditions like ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, or learning differences may play a role in how children express their needs or cope with the world around them.

Understanding the underlying cause is key to finding the right support.

At Evolving Minds Counselling, we take a collaborative, family-centred approach to support children and adolescents with challenging behaviours. We work closely with parents, and where appropriate, schools and other professionals to build emotional insight, improve communication, and create a coordinated plan of support.

Our clinicians use evidence-based approaches to support emotional regulation, positive behaviour change, and lasting wellbeing. Learn more on our evidence based therapies page.
