Therapy for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology, we provide individualised therapy and psychological support for children, adolescents and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Based in Menai in the Sutherland Shire, we offer both in-person and online sessions.

Our approach is neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based, and evidence-informed. We recognise that autism presents differently for each person, and we provide support that reflects individual needs, preferences, and goals. For some clients, art therapy offers a creative, non-verbal way to explore emotions, reduce anxiety, and build connection, without pressure to communicate in conventional ways.

Early intervention can play a key role in supporting development. Identifying autism in the early years allows us to work with families around communication, emotional regulation, adaptive behaviour and social skills.

We also provide ongoing support through key life transitions, including starting school, navigating adolescence, and preparing for adulthood. Therapy often focuses on building independence, executive functioning, and coping strategies, as well as supporting vocational readiness and social engagement. For many clients, this also includes managing co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, ADHD or sensory sensitivities.

We also offer tools, psychoeducation, and emotional support to help families feel more confident and connected. Our work may also involve liaising with schools and support workers to ensure consistency across settings.
