Child Therapy
at Evolving Minds
Childhood is a time of rapid emotional, cognitive and social development. While children are naturally resilient, they can need additional support to manage big emotions or adapt to changes in their environment. Therapy can help with a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, challenging behaviour, low self-esteem, separation anxiety, grief, and change in the family, such as separation or divorce.
Parents or caregivers may consider therapy if they notice changes such as frequent emotional outbursts, persistent worry or sadness, difficulty sleeping, withdrawal from friends or family, school avoidance, or trouble adjusting to family transitions. These signs may indicate your child is struggling and could benefit from professional support.
At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology, we provide evidence-based child therapy that is warm, developmentally appropriate, and tailored to each child’s age, stage and individual needs.
Our experienced clinicians are trained in a range of therapeutic approaches, including play-based therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and family systems approaches, all carefully adapted to support emotional regulation, social development and resilience.
Sessions are designed to be engaging and supportive, helping children manage emotional challenges and strengthen relationships at home, at school, and in the community. We also work closely with parents and caregivers, offering guidance around parenting strategies and communication where helpful. Family Counselling may be recommended when family dynamics are impacting a child’s wellbeing, or when working together can support more meaningful and sustained progress.
Therapy is available in-person at our Sutherland Shire practice. To learn more about the therapies we use, visit our Evidence-Based Therapies page.
