Art Therapy
Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses creative processes, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, or clay, to support people in expressing emotions that may be difficult to put into words. It can be especially helpful for those experiencing anxiety, trauma, grief, ADHD, ASD, dementia, low self-esteem, identity exploration, ageing, or challenges with relationships and connection.
At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology in Menai, art therapy is available for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. Sessions are offered by a qualified Art Psychotherapist in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. Clients are invited to express and explore their emotions, reflect on their experiences, and work through difficult thoughts or feelings at their own pace. Art therapy can be a gentle and empowering alternative when traditional talk therapy feels overwhelming or inaccessible.
This approach is particularly beneficial for individuals experiencing:
-
Anxiety, stress, or emotional overwhelm
-
Depression and mood difficulties
-
Trauma or post-traumatic stress
-
Grief and loss
-
Life transitions or adjustment challenges
-
ADHD or executive functioning difficulties
-
Autism and other neurodivergent experiences
-
Dementia, cognitive decline and ageing
-
LGBTQIA+ identity exploration and self-acceptance
-
Phobias or fears that are hard to verbalise
No artistic skill or experience is required. Art therapy is not about making “good” art, it’s about using creative expression to process feelings, gain insight and connect with parts of yourself in new and meaningful ways.
Our approach is informed by evidence-based practices and may include both creative and verbal processes, depending on your needs and goals. All sessions are neuro-affirming, trauma-informed, and LGBTQIA+ inclusive.
