Therapy for Ageing and Dementia
at Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology
At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology in Menai, we provide compassionate, evidence-based support for older adults and their families. As we grow older, life can bring new experiences, shifting roles, and unexpected challenges. Therapy offers a supportive space to make sense of these changes, process emotions, and focus on what matters most in this stage of life.
These changes might include retirement, shifts in family roles, the loss of a loved one, or difficulties with health, mobility or memory. Therapy can help ease anxiety, process emotions, and offer a safe space to feel heard, supported, and understood during this time.
When verbal expression becomes difficult, such as in the early stages of dementia or with cognitive decline, art therapy offers a gentle, creative alternative. Through painting, sculpture, collage, and other sensory-based materials, art therapy allows individuals to express emotions and feel understood without needing to rely on words. Art Therapy can reduce agitation, improve mood, and foster moments of calm and connection in a way that feels safe and empowering.
For some clients, Animal Assisted Therapy can offer an additional layer of comfort and connection. The presence of a therapy animal can help reduce anxiety, improve mood, and support engagement, particularly for older adults or those living with dementia. This approach is available on a case-by-case basis and can be discussed during your initial consultation.
We also support carers and family members who may feel overwhelmed, isolated, or unsure how to respond to changing needs. Whether someone is living independently or with loved ones, our clinicians work alongside clients and their support networks with a focus on dignity, inclusion and understanding.
