Counselling Therapies

Our experienced clinicians utilise a range of therapeutic approaches, including:

CBT-E

CBT-E, or Enhanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, is a specialised and evidence-based treatment for eating disorders.

CBT-E is tailored to each person's specific needs and targets the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that maintain the eating disorder.  Through a structured and supportive approach, CBT-E empowers individuals to regain control over their relationship with food and their bodies, leading to lasting recovery.

DBT-E

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for Eating Disorders is designed to address the complex emotional and behavioural challenges associated with eating disorders.

DBT-E focuses on helping individuals manage intense emotions, reduce harmful behaviours related to disordered eating, and improve their overall relationship with food and their bodies.

Family Based

Therapy (FBT)

Family-Based Treatment (FBT), also known as the Maudsley approach, is a highly effective, evidence-based therapy for adolescents with eating disorders, particularly anorexia nervosa.

The therapy is structured around three key phases: Weight Restoration, Returning Control of Eating to the Adolescent, and Establishing a Healthy Adolescent Identity.

Interpersonal Therapy

Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) for eating disorders is a structured, evidence-based approach focusing on the connection between interpersonal relationships and the development or maintenance of disordered eating behaviours.

Originally developed to treat depression, IPT has been adapted to address eating disorders by examining how difficulties in relationships and social interactions can contribute to issues with food, body image, and self-esteem.

MANTRA

(Maudsley Model

of Anorexia Nervosa)

MANTRA is a specialised evidence-based approach which focuses working closely with clients to explore factors that maintain the eating disorder,. while developing healthier coping mechanisms.

MANTRA therapy looks to improve motivation for change, interpersonal relationships while addressing the cognitive rigidity often seen in those with anorexia nervosa.

Schema Therapy

Schema Therapy for eating disorders is an integrative approach that combines elements of cognitive-behavioural therapy, attachment theory, and psychodynamic concepts to address the deep-rooted patterns of thinking and behaviour, known as schemas, that contribute to disordered eating.

Schema Therapy focuses on understanding how these underlying schemas drive harmful behaviours and attitudes toward food, body image, and self-worth.

EMDR

Idividuals break the link between past trauma and their eating behaviours, reduce anxiety related to body image, and improve self-esteem.

Many individuals with eating disorders have experienced significant traumas or distressing life events that influence their relationship with food, body image, and self-worth.

EMDR helps clients reframe their thoughts and beliefs about themselves, their bodies, and their experiences.
