Menopause and Midlife Transitions

Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology | Menai and Sutherland Shire

Menopause can be a period of significant change, both physically and psychologically. Many people notice shifts in mood, anxiety, sleep, confidence, relationships, and a sense of identity. These changes may develop gradually or alongside other life pressures and are common, yet often misunderstood or minimised.

At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology, we provide psychological therapy for people navigating menopause in Menai and across the Sutherland Shire. Therapy is available in person at our Menai practice and via secure online sessions for clients across NSW and Australia. People may seek therapy at this time for increased anxiety, low mood, irritability, sleep disruption, reduced confidence, cognitive changes, or the psychological impact of physical symptoms and changing roles or responsibilities.

Hormonal changes do not occur in isolation. They often interact with ongoing stress, past experiences, work pressures, caring responsibilities, relationship dynamics, and broader life changes. Psychological therapy provides a structured and confidential space to explore how these factors are interacting and to develop ways of responding that feel manageable and realistic in everyday life.

Our clinicians draw on a range of evidence-based psychological approaches. Therapy may focus on emotional regulation, coping strategies, self-understanding, and adjustment to change, including shifts in priorities, expectations, and sense of self that can arise during this stage of life. Sessions are paced and collaborative, allowing space to reflect on what is happening while also focusing on practical ways of navigating current challenges.

Therapy is provided within a professional psychology practice and informed by clinical training, experience, and current psychological research.

We recognise that experiences of menopause vary widely. Therapy takes into account individual circumstances, values, cultural context, and lived experience, with attention to autonomy, strengths, and what is most important to address at a given time.

Our team includes clinicians with experience and interest in menopause and women’s mental health, informed by professional training and ongoing development. This allows care to remain responsive to the range of psychological experiences that can arise during this stage of life.
