Therapy for Personality Disorders
at Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology
Personality disorders are long-standing patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that can cause distress and interfere with everyday life. These patterns often begin in adolescence or early adulthood and may affect how a person sees themselves, relates to others, and responds to stress.
At Evolving Minds Counselling and Psychology, we provide compassionate, evidence-based therapy for a range of personality disorders, including:
-
Borderline personality disorder
-
Avoidant personality disorder
-
Histrionic personality disorder
-
Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) involves patterns of intense emotions, fear of abandonment, difficulty with relationships, rapid mood changes, impulsive behaviours, and a persistent sense of emptiness. Therapy supports emotional regulation, distress tolerance and more stable interpersonal connections.
Avoidant Personality Disorder presents as sensitivity to criticism, low self-esteem, and a strong desire to avoid social situations due to fear of rejection or judgement. Therapy focuses on building confidence, improving social connection, and supporting a more positive and stable sense of self.
Histrionic Personality Disorder presents as a need for approval, and a tendency to seek attention. People with this pattern may struggle with feeling overlooked or misunderstood. Therapy can assist with building emotional awareness and improving self-worth.
Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) is defined by a strong need for control, perfectionism and rigid thinking. Unlike OCD, which includes intrusive thoughts and compulsions, OCPD focuses on order, rules and high standards. Therapy aims to reduce rigidity and promote more flexible, balanced ways of coping.
Many people with personality disorders also experience anxiety, depression, or complex trauma, which we address through an integrated, person-centred approach.
